On our drive from the Grand Canyon to Disneyland, our route took us directly through the desert town of Kingman, Arizona. Eric and I had been there before, and knew that it held little charm, but we knew the girls would get a kick out of it.
A quick photo stop and purchase of souvenir magnets, and we were on our way.
Remember that I said desert town? Our car tells the story:
There’s a lot of nothing out there, and land is cheap, if you are looking to get away from civilization for awhile. Stay on the Arizon side, though: gas in Kingman, AZ was $2.97/gallon, and just over the California border in Needles, it was $3.79. Thankfully it got lower as we neared LA.
After we crossed the Mojave desert and climbed over the hills, we saw the yellowish haze of smog hanging over LA. The smog is famous, but I had not realized that there would be a visible line of demarcation in the sky.
Around 5pm, we rolled into Anaheim, home of Disneyland. Our hotel is just a 7-minute walk from the main gates, and it’s very nice. We took a few minutes to unpack before the girls dragged us to the House of Mouse.
We caught the parade, then Eric and I introduced the girls to our favorite Disney ride: Space Mountain.
We took advantage of short lines and midnight closing, and rode most of the “big” attractions in Disneyland. Tired and happy, we returned to the hotel, ready for more Disney fun ahead in the next two days.
